A Work Table Disguised as Vibes

You know what’s cool? A vibey lounge.
You know what’s even cooler? A vibey lounge that turns into a full-blown workspace on command.

This shape-shifting piece is The Joy Lab’s hydraulic lift table—our custom-designed coffee table that can rise from “let’s chill” to “let’s build” in seconds. Built to match the lab’s retro-modern energy and flex with our day-to-day creative chaos, this table is as functional as it is fabulous.

THE IDEA

We needed something that could keep the studio lookin’ cute when we’re not actively making a mess—but still be ready for action when it’s go-time.

So we Frankensteined it.

• Found the top on Facebook Marketplace (the sculptural silhouette was too good to pass up)

• Sanded, sealed, and repainted it to fit The Joy Lab’s clean white + high contrast vibe

• Added hydraulic lift legs to raise it to a standing work table height in seconds

THE BUILD

This wasn’t your average IKEA-hack situation. To make the table mobile and modular:

• Mounted the lift legs on wood rounds with hidden wheels, so it can roll out of the way as needed

• Designed and 3D printed custom hydraulic leg covers in four interlocking pieces per leg

• Welded the PLA parts together for a seamless, architectural look that hides the metal mechanism underneath

The result? A sculptural piece that looks like it came from a fancy showroom—but is secretly engineered for maximum utility and maker magic.
